Manual Medicine

Manual Medicine is considered a conservative orthopedic method whose diagnostic capabilities are indispensable for painful disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

Manual therapy techniques play an exceptional role in the treatment of relevant illnesses due to their economy and their efficiency, which can often be observed very quickly.

The Austrian Medical Society for Manual Medicine (ÖÄGMM) strives to teach in its courses the knowledge content that is not sufficiently conveyed in studies and training at hospitals and clinics, so that this knowledge can be successfully applied to patients.

Many complaints and pains in the musculoskeletal system are of a functional nature. Functional disorders such as limited mobility and the famous vertebral joint blockage (“dislocated vertebrae”) are part of a neuro-muscular state of tension that patients perceive as painful.

However, experience has shown that simply “adjusting” usually only provides brief relief, as the state of tension in the bonded soft tissue (connective tissue tension) can hardly be resolved. Additional methods are usually necessary for this.

However, manual medicine has value as part of a broader structural approach.
